Food waste

Food waste

Separating your food waste from your general waste doesn’t just increase recycling rates – it saves money too.

From plate to purpose

Separating your food waste from your general waste doesn’t just increase recycling rates – it saves money too.

You don’t have to be a hotel or restaurant to use a food waste service; every kind of business generates food waste that can be recycled separately. Not only will food waste recycling reduce your environmental impact, it often reduces your overall collection costs. And it couldn’t be easier to manage.

Collect and swap bins

We provide dedicated food waste bins and compostable liners with a collect and swap service. When each food bin is full, we’ll collect and replace it with a clean, sanitised food waste caddy.  This helps to eliminate odours, saves on maintenance, and maintains biosecurity. We can collect compacted food waste and palletised food for destruction. And depending on the volume and nature of the waste, we may even be able to offer rebates for animal feed.

Generating green energy

Your food waste collections will be used to generate green energy via a process called anaerobic digestion. This speeds up the natural breakdown of food waste inside a large, sealed tank. The process emits a methane-rich gas which is captured and used to generate electricity.

Recycle right

Our expert team will provide you with the right containers and equipment to suit your needs. And to make sure you staff understand all your recycling operations and procedures, we’ll be on hand to offer advice and training - it’s all part of the service.

What can go into your food waste bins?

A wide range of food waste, such as:

    • All uneaten food and plate scrapings
    • Fruit and vegetables
    • Liquid and drink waste
    • Raw and cooked food e.g. meat and fish
    • Bread and bakery products
    • Residue from food production

We don’t accept the following in food bins:

    • Non-food waste
    • Packaging
    • Liquids
    • Plastic bags
    • Garden waste
    • General waste
    • Glass

Did you know….

We’re one of the few waste management companies in the UK that can collect bioplastic biodegradable packaging in our food waste stream. If you’d like to know more, just ask.

What happens next?

Ever wondered what happens to your recycled food waste once we’ve collected it?

  • Our specialist cleaning team empty your food waste into a compactor.
  • The compactor is transported to an anaerobic digestion plant.
  • Food waste is digested with bacteria, which produces Biogas (Methane).
  • This is used to enhance natural gas in the National Grid, or generate electricity.
  • Any residue material is used to male bio-fertilisers.

Size matters

We can provide bespoke food waste management solutions for any size of business, across all sectors and industries. That includes companies that produce large quantities of food waste, such as schools, hospitals and hotels.
